The need for development…

The need for development must not supersede our need to protect the environment around us. What is to be gained if we ignore the people, land, and animals that have existed here for thousands of years, in the pursuit of unnecessary development. I will not assume that this bill is à direct move to eliminate the procedures and limitations that the Ford government and Doug Ford’s friends have had to put up with over the years. I will not assume that the 418 vanity project being put on hold as it will impact more than 50 endangered species, is directly linked to this bill 5. To assume that when Doug Ford wanted to pave over wetlands, and couldn’t would produce such a bill, would be to assume that Doug Ford cares more about lining his pockets and those of his friends over the well-being of Ontarians. To believe that this bill would be proposed to allow for the mining of rare earth metals, without concern for the indigenous populations that govern the land and would be poisoned by bad mining practice's, is to say that Doug Ford does not care about the people of Ontario, unless those people can make him wealthier. The same people that hope to gain from this bill are those that have handed Doug Ford money at his daughters wedding, that continue to contribute to his campaign, and also, do not care about Ontario, and it’s people.
I have never feared more for this land and what consequences my son and all his generation will have to do to repair the damage that will be inflicted. I hope that at that time, they elect someone who wants to serve the whole of Ontario, all of its citizens, and to renew and better its wild spaces.
