Amending the Mining Act to emphasize “protection of Ontario’s economy” without a commitment to prevent harm to public health and the environment is a dangerous change to the Mining Act. Please recall the Walkerton tragedy in Ontario when government removed regulatory requirements thus ignoring its responsibility to protect public health. Ontario's economy must support and serve Ontario's people. An economy that increases risk to public health, especially for those Indigenous Nations on whose territory minerals are found, is an abdication of government's responsibility. Human beings are dependent on our environment for our survival and our health. We need our government to create the framework to protect and sustain our population for this time of tariff and sovereignty threats from our southern neighbour but also government has a responsibility to our public health and environment. Please correct this emphasis to restore commitment to prevent harm to public health and the environment.
