As a member of the archaeological community, as well as an advocate for the preservation of both Indigenous and settler heritage, the details of this bill upset me. While it is understood that infrastructure such as housing and transit are important and significant to the people of Ontario, but not at the expense of histories that will be lost if they are not properly environmentally and archaeologically assessed. Colonialist culture had already been detrimental to Indigenous heritage, but this bill also affects settler heritage. These assessments are necessary, and I don't believe building more quickly will alleviate financial stress on the Ontarian public. Please reconsider this amendment and maintain the currently necessary assessments.
Thank you.
