I am in strong opposition to this proposed change under Bill 5. Archaeological history and especially Indigenous history needs to be protected as it is a crucial part of our understanding about our past. Especially for Indigenous Peoples of Canada, whose history has been nearly erased by colonization, we owe them the respect of allowing them the opportunity to inspect proposed development sites for any signs of archaeological and historical artifacts at the very least. This proposed change under Bill 5 would eliminate those requirements currently in place.
