I oppose this Act and its enabling of the Ford administration to skip established procedures. Archeology is not red tape. Our cultural heritage is not red tape. No project should be above rules, Acts, Regulations, Instruments (such as municipal by-laws) or conditions. At a time when our national pride is questioned, we should not be dismissing our collective histories so blatantly, in addition to proposing such a colonial piece of legislation. Our cultural heritage is crucial to the sustainability of our nation, and stewardship of the land and respect for treaties a crucial step towards reconciliation. Our cultural heritage (sites, buildings, landscapes, crafts, etc) provides economic drivers that cannot be denied - where would the tourism industry be without our collective histories? We need to understand risks in order to mitigate them.
