I do not support changing the Ontario Heritage Act to allow the Province to ignore its own rules. Archaeological Assessment requirements have been in place since the OHA was first passed in 1975. Many important sites, including burials, have been discovered and protected in the last 75 years. Good planning and environmental protection demand that time must be taken to follow these important steps. It does not help the people of Ontario to ignore these requirements and follow a slipshod process. What if an important site is uncovered in the process of construction? This could lead to much more expensive delays.

The First Nations of Ontario should be consulted about this.

On the issue of consultation, I registered, several years ago to receive notification from the Environmental Registry of any pending legislation or applications for any matters concerning Heritage or Planning, however I did not receive a notice of this piece of legislation. Why is that? If there was a breakdown in your notification process, more time must be allotted for consultation.
