Due to colonization, so much has been lost in the way of historical knowledge of Indigenous peoples across Ontario. First Nations already often struggle to consult on heritage concerns; reducing the window is the opposite approach to take on this matter. There is a genuine concern from communities that sites they may not even be aware of would be destroyed. Not to mention, there is a whole industry built around ensuring that due process is respected and sites are not damaged. Jobs, especially for those in more remote communities, will be lost.
