I would like to see a greater presence in advertising about the government incentives. Almost everyone I speak to about the program has no idea that it exists, much less what kinds of amounts are available towards the purchase or lease of an EV.
With regards to the incentive program, I would also like to see the reduction (or elimination) of HST or PST. I find that the biggest enticement for me -- and others -- when considering an EV is the cost reduction. While the incentive program is good (and generous), I would like to see more financial encouragement in order to really get sales moving.
I would like to see some electricity relief for EV owners. Perhaps a monthly credit towards our bill, in consideration of all the charging we do at home. A small amount would do! Even $10 a month would be extremely helpful in encouraging others to go electric.
While I personally haven't opted (yet) to buy an at-home charging station, the costs are still prohibitive. Even with the EVCO program, I can't budget for a system that a) can't go with me if I move, and b) I'll only be eligible for once. This seems a bit near-sighted when people do tend to move house on a regular basis!
The infrastructure for charging stations is clearly growing. But I'm surprised at the lack of fast charging (DC) stations. It seems to me that these are the most necessary of all charging stations! Not everyone can afford to leave their car at a charger for 4-6 hours. But 30 minutes is easily managed. I'm happy to pay for the privilege of using a DC charger. It's a "luxury" I would happily shell out my $4-5 for whenever I need to fill up my battery in a hurry.
Free charging stations are a MUST. At least until EVs have become more prevalent, and the general public is more accepting of them, having free charging stations is incredibly important.
