I am 70 years old and I was proud Burlington resident for last 36 years.
Through all these years, I was paying property tax to the city. 5 years ago, I bought apartment, where I found my peace which was suddenly interrupted last year, by Ministry’s letter informing us that our building is on a toxic property which Parker’s cleaners caused years ago.
5 years ago when I bought apartment nobody informed me that building is on toxic property, even the problem was existing for so many years. If I knew about it, I would never buy this apartment.
Dealing with many health issues, I was still trying to be active, I was enjoying gardening around the building for last 5 years, not knowing that gardening (toxic soil) can actually make me sicker.
I have to say that I am feeling trapped in this situation and very disappointed in our City of Burlington officials and Ministry of environment that they can not solve this problem on better way, but dump the problem on innocent people.
I can hardly go through the month with $1500 retirement income, and you are making me responsible for cleaning up toxic property which someone else cause it.
DISAPPOINTING !!!
