Producers should model successful programs that focus on protecting resources, not destroying them. Deposit-Return Systems (DRS) are most popular.

DRS are effective, flexible, and benefit all participants. They can easily be expanded in Ontario, can work alongside Blue Box programs, and can achieve diversion rates of over 90%, with far less contamination.

It is possible to adopt new programs quickly, as seen with the sale of alcoholic beverages at corner stores. Had DRS been a condition of this sales policy, benefits could include return customers, convenient return options, less litter.

Successful DRS highlight convenience and high deposits. DRS can be applied to a variety of materials and can be collected via Reverse Vending Machines, depots, or store outlets, which offer cash back or an instore credit to encourage return customers.

DRS also make it possible to divert materials at work and at play - anywhere, anytime.

There is no excuse to delay programs or destroy resources.
