Recycling pickups should be extended to schools, multi-unit residential buildings, long-term care and retirement homes.
Plastic packaging manufacturers committed to pay for this in 2021: now they are saying it's too expensive and "now is not the right time".
But population growth patterns say now IS the Right Time.
As our cities densify, more and more people live in multi-unit residential buildings. It's only logical that our Blue Box program should serve this growing segment of our waste-producing population.
Without recycling and waste reduction programs in multi-unit residential buildings, we are creating more and more garbage that has to be trucked farther and farther away as our local landfills reach capacity, to dumps in Michigan, New York State, or to possibly unsafe locations like the proposed Dresden Dump.
The Blue Box program should be about Reduction, Reuse and Recycling -- not waste producer Revenue.
