I believe that the current incentive program is quite strong and would like to see it continue in its current form until at least 2025 to encourage the sale of more EVs in the province.
I understand that there is also some discussion of possibly eliminating the HST on the sale of new EVs. I think this is an excellent idea as an additional incentive to accelerate the adoption of non-ICE vehicles in Ontario.
Additionally, I have heard that "over-night" charging of EVs is being earmarked for potential "no-cost charging" through a registration program tied local hydro providers. I like this idea quite a bit because its a creative way to provide long-term incentive for consumers to choose EV vehicles because the operating cost would be considerably less than traditional hydro-carbon based transport.
When stacking all of the above programs together, it creates an extremely compelling case for people to chose EV over ICE. As an Ontarian who is hoping to purchase EV as my next family transport, I would love to have the continued support and conviction of my provincial government in this choice.
