It is important to continue to collect blue bin recycling from small to medium businesses that use the blue bin to recycle. This already implies that they are small scale recylcers and not using a giant bin. Many rural businesses are already on the truck route, and to send another set of trucks is not environmentally appropriate. Small businesses have generally small amounts of recycling.
However, if a business has a large volume of recycling - like winery boxes for an example - that fill the truck, this is not the intended volume of the blue bin program.
Perhaps small to med businesses can be permitted to schedule in advance when they will have large volumes of recycling so the waste management company can be prepared for that week. If it is regular/consistant for wineries to have large volumes of cardboard, for example, perhaps there can be a separate truck dedicated to pick up from high volume recyclers that schedule for it - as it is likley seasonal as well....just a guess though.
We can schedule for large item pick ups already so the tech could just be modified for high volume recycling too.
Normal volume recyclers, such as my business, should not be impacted by this change as we are not putting out any more than a regular household would. Many weeks we have much less than households.
I think it is best to offer solutions that work with the high level recyclers to ensure their collection is picked up efficiently (without filling the truck), but not denying the rest of our businesses from very small amounts of collection.
Thank you for considering our concern for continued pick up for small to med businesses with normal amounts of recycling.
