I oppose the removal of any land from Ontario provincial parks, for any reason. While this change is proposed as simply changing hands between government departments it sets a dangerous precedent of prioritizing development and prioritizing lower standards over environmental protections and public health standards. It also sets a precedent of moving publicly accessed park land, to another government agency, which could then privatize or change development plans with less public scrutiny.
The MTO should work with Ontario Parks to ensure highway development and maintenance complies with Parks standards and environmental protections. Development certainly occurs in Provincial parks so there is no reason for the government to remove land from parks.
Government work should not be siloed, there should be collaboration and unified protocols across Ministries and departments to ensure consistent public service, transparency, and accountability.
