Electric Vehicle Incentive Program: I think definitely that incentives should be tied to vehicle tailpipe emissions, the lower the emissions the higher the incentive.
I think Ontario is leading the way currently with the 30 per cent MSRP incentive cap it now offers for purchasing a EV below a certain price threshold. In fact that is what persuaded me to put down a deposit for a EV. Otherwise it would not have been financially feasible for me to do so. For vehicles above 75000.00 I'm not sure if the 3000.00 incentive makes a difference in the decision of a person who can afford that much and it may be seen by taxpayers as subsidizing the wealthy.
Electric Vehicle Chargers Ontario Program: In order to get more people to adapt EV's, charging stations definitely have to be enhanced. Range anxiety and the lack of places to charge go hand in hand. Although most will charge at home, the lack of charger infrastructure will slow the adoption of EV's. So what should be done? First the Government as it's currently doing, is to greatly increase Level 3 chargers as to create a Province wide system of chargers placed along all major and secondary highways throughout the province. Level 3 or fast chargers would be preferable. Second, the private sector should be encouraged to install chargers at there place of business. Cities and towns through the gas tax money they currently receive, a portion could be made to go for chargers in parking lots and in town centres.Multi-unit buildings could receive a tax credit for installing chargers. I also think it should be mandated any new construction including single family homes have chargers installed during construction.
Education and Awareness: Governments can help awareness by replacing where it can gas vehicles it currently has in there fleet with EV's. Again with gas tax revenue it could mandate all municipalities to do the same. I believe that EV's are going to be the future in transportation and we have to encourage the adoption of EV's at all levels including the Federal Government.
