This is another example where a proposal seems minor, but the implications are huge.
When an existing plan is modified, such as this proposed change, it will delay the final rehabilitation until the completion of the final phase. If the setback is reduced, and then the road allowance is allowed to be mined, the two pits will become one, and the final rehabilitation will be delayed. This can set back the interim rehabilitation, and the restoration of the aquifer, by decades. Rehabilitation is required to be progressive, and this proposal defeats that objective.
