I am extremely concerned to learn that Bill 66, the Restoring Ontario’s Competitiveness Act, could open up the Greenbelt to private development.

It is my understanding that the proposed legislation would allow municipalities to bypass protections intended to protect the Greenbelt. This would allow private development in parts of the Greenbelt that have been, until now, protected.

The Greenbelt is an important part of southern Ontario. It protects 2 million acres of farms, natural areas and freshwater. Opening it up to development will reduce smart growth planning that facilitates increased density, affordable housing and public transit.

Doug Ford made a promise to protect the Greenbelt. To protect the environment for future generations, I am calling on you to stand up and oppose Bill 66.
