I believe this is a dangerous precedent to set that our provincial government can continue to roll back protected lands for unnecessary expansions. 86% of Ontarions wish for further protections and would be willing to pay more in taxes to ensure this is completed, as observed by the Protected Areas Working Group polling of Ontario citizens.
I understand compared to the whole hectarage of the parks, the amount being set aside for expansion is small, however, those slivers of land could include important habitat for numerous at risk species such as the blandings turtle. Without proper environmental assessment first, the land should remain protected.
