I am pleased to see this proposal to regulate Conservation Reserves and Provincial Park additions. It has been a long time coming as most of these lands were recommended for protection in 1999. They are all important additions to Ontario's protected areas and compliment existing protected lands held by Land Trusts and other conservation organizations (e.g. Nature Conservancy of Canada - Big Trout Bay Nature Reserve, and Thunder Bay Field Naturalists - Pine Bay Reserve; both adjacent to parts of the Western Lake Superior CR).
In 2022 I proposed to the Ministry of Natural Resources and MECP that the boundary of the proposed Pearson Township Wetland CR by amended to reflect the ecological boundaries of this provincially significant wetland (PSW). I support the regulation of this CR as proposed. However I continue to recommend that the boundary be revised in the near future, after regulation, to align with the boundary of the PSW. This would ensure the protection of more of the PSW on public land and free up non-PSW lands for general public land (e.g. forestry). The additional lands owned and protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada compliment this new CR. I have attached a copy of a map showing the boundary I am recommending.
