I am very concerned and experiencing a lot of angst and sleepless nights due to this application 025-1005 by Strada Aggregates to take an enormous amount of water to wash the aggregate and contaminants that are part of their proposed Below the Water Table BLAST quarry. The present pit sits on a pristine aquifer and at the headwaters of 3 major river systems in Southern Ontario. The amount of water they want to take will subsume all the water in our area including ponds, streams, and our wells. How can one company do this to our natural environment and ourselves as residents? One other concern is the effect on our air quality. The farmland, waterways, animals and people will be exposed to silica dust raised during the blasts. Fly rock is a danger within a 2 km radius of the blast. There will be 65 gravel trucks in and 65 outbound per HOUR along with the oil, exhaust and rocks hitting our windscreens. Many of the locals have farms that FEED peopled! To degrade the land and water is unacceptable. I worry that we are up against influential, uber rich people who are well connected and that we have no one of substance on our side. The problem has not received much exposure and many people who will be affected do not even know about the application, let alone its ramifications, of which I have named only a few. As the Ministry for the Environment, who has been disrespected by our current provincial government, I hope you can put forward an argument that will stop this application. It must fail.
