The Strada operations in this proposal sit on top of a significant groundwater recharge area, drinking water aquifer and extremely sensitive watershed. This request puts additional strain on the water table supply, and runs the risk of being a water quantity and quality disaster. This action will almost certainly cause unacceptable environmental impact and damage to delicate ecosystems. This has also been an area of moderate to severe drought in recent years. It's not just a local matter. The large system in question supplies water to over a million people, and impacts all of the surrounding area and the watersheds connected to and supplied by Headwaters. There are no remedies for the damage this action will cause. It will be catastrophic and irreversible. Why does a surface pit need this much water? With 6000 pits in Ontario and 38 years of surplus gravel, there is no need for this request. In a time when we have gained greater understanding and taken more holistic views, and there is so much focus on preserving the environment, why are there still people and companies operating with complete disregard for the planet and life? Where are those organizations who are supposed to be protecting the environment? Why are they letting things like this happen? Why are politicians not protecting the interests and health of their constituents? You need to invoke natural law and preserve water and life. Please DO NOT approve this application.
