Hay Marsh is a vital and rare coastal wetland ecosystem that supports exceptional biodiversity along the Lake Huron shoreline. As one of the remaining intact coastal wetlands in the region, it provides critical habitat for a wide range of species at risk, migratory birds, and unique plant communities. These wetlands also play an essential role in water quality, flood mitigation, climate resilience, and maintaining the ecological health of the surrounding watershed.
Given its ecological significance and the increasing pressures on coastal environments across the Great Lakes, I fully support the permanent protection of this provincially significant wetland. Designating Hay Marsh as a provincial park would ensure that this important natural area is conserved for future generations, while continuing to provide opportunities for low-impact recreation, environmental education, and scientific study.
