I do not support the proposed plan to no longer require facilities with existing toxics reduction plans to review those plans, and exempt certain facilities from all future planning and reporting obligations. If Love Canal and other environmental catastrophes surrounding disposal of toxic wastes and use of toxic substances has taught us anything, it is that good tracking and monitoring--and most importantly reduction--of toxic substances is vital for reducing environmental contamination in Ontario. Relaxing these regulations is not the way to go when environments across the province are facing unprecedented stress from climate change, habitat loss, and other factors.
