I strongly oppose Bill 60 as a short-sighted and dangerous piece of legislation that overrides local democracy and evidence-based planning. By stripping municipalities of their authority to implement projects supported by their own residents and data, the bill forces a car-centric status quo that our cities can no longer afford. It ignores the government's own experts who confirm that bike lanes are not the cause of gridlock, and it will actively make our roads more dangerous by blocking protected infrastructure that is proven to prevent serious injuries and deaths. Furthermore, it threatens the very fabric of our communities by jeopardizing vital uses of road space like transit priority, safe crossings, and public patios, ultimately undermining our climate goals and public health by locking us into a polluting, car-dependent future.
