The proposal does not support sustainable transport options and may cause unnecessary imbalance in the ability to plan transportation in the province that is equitable, accessible and safe for all Ontarians. Bicycle infrastructure, when planned as an integrated part of road transport infrastructure work is a known contributor to sustainable transportation. It increases environmental and social benefits, as well as contributing positively to local economies. A shining example includes the Bloor bike lanes in downtown Toronto. This proposal is short-sighted, biased towards only one segment of road users and has the potential to promote unsustainable transport patterns, increase risk to all road users and set back the Province's long-term ability to ensure affordable, accessible and sustainable transport.
