I am a Toronto resident age 66. I use car, transit, bicycle and walking to get around the city.
I strongly favour an extensive network of bike lanes to promote safe cycling in the city. In 2004 I was "doored" on my bike in an accident on Bloor Street near Avenue Road. The result was fractures in my hand that required surgery. I was lucky that the injuries weren't worse.
Today that stretch of Bloor is safe for cyclists because of a bike lane.
Bike lanes are a critical part of Toronto infrastructure. They need to be carefully planned and based on data. The city is managing this process effectively. The province has no business interfering with the oversight of bike lanes.
Maybe Doug Ford is still angry that he didn't get elected mayor of Toronto. He should stick to his job of running the province and butt out of municipal business.
