This legislation is over reach into local municipal issues on which the people who live and work in Toronto should have the final say. There is ample evidence that bike lanes are not slowing down traffic but they are, along with reduced driving speeds, contributing greatly to the safety of our roadways. Pedestrian fatalaties are down. In the dense urban centre like Toronto this is the onoly metric that makes sense. Many people ride bikes to work or to run errands and they need to be able to do so safely. The city spent several years studying the issue and determining the best places for cycle lanes and spent my tax money building them. This is about politics not policy. A relative of mine was struck by a truck on her bike and spent more than a full year recovering from a broken pelvis and several other broken bones. Her children were small and her family was barely able to cope with the tragic disruption. At the corner of my street for years there was a white bike tethered to a post - a memorial to a felled cyclist. This legislation is an insult to the residents of Toronto who can finally cycle safely. It was such a long time coming and to have the provincial government take that choice from the people of Toronto is simply wrong. People are not riding bikes on suburban roads with higher speeds. Leave the streets of the old city as they are.
