I am opposed to Schedule 5 of Bill 60. The intent is to keep people and goods moving by creating more capacity on roads for vehicles. But what do you think bikes carry? Bikes carry people and goods with a capacity about 20 times what a car lane would provide. It also mentions traffic and congestion are a major source of air pollution especially in urban areas. Agreed, and a bike lane? Zero pollution. I would argue we need more bike lanes to reduce pollution.
The reason municipalities have control over their own roads is that they are closely connected to the people living there. Perhaps there are some regions where bike lanes are not desired, but there are certainly regions where the local people want bike lanes. This is a municipal decision, not provincial, so back off! Stop trying to force me into a car and make my commute dangerous when I'd rather bike. Stop putting my kids' lives at risk. Give them a safe bike lane.
