I'm a cyclist and a driver -- and I unequivocally oppose this proposal. Having a dedicated, protected bike lane means I can predict where cyclists will be when I'm driving, and avoid hitting them or having to slam on my breaks at the last minute. As a cyclist, I am finally able to get around Toronto without having to white-knuckle, near-miss, and and risk my life to commute to work or get around this city to live my life. DO NOT MOVE AHEAD WITH THIS PROPOSAL. People will die, drivers will be traumatized, and it's the most bone-headed move I have ever heard.
On top of this personal message, as a human who relies on air to breathe, this proposal will worsen traffic congestion, not reduce it -- thereby making air quality worse on our streets and in our cities. Your government’s own experts have consistently said that bike lanes are not a cause of gridlock.
DO NOT MOVE AHEAD WITH THIS PROPOSAL for the love of god.
