Since bike lanes enable transportation other than using motor vehicles, it only makes sense to be able to take away motor vehicle lanes to build safe, separate bike lanes. Bike lanes allow for safe and active transportation, can be used by those who choose to use bicycles and those who cannot afford cars, it reduces congestion. I have seen no evidence that making bicycling safer by building bike lanes (even when they take away space from cars) is anything but beneficial for the community. I drive and I love to see people bicycle because then they aren't sitting in the car in front of me slowing me down. And since almost all cars have only one person in them during commutes, every person who switches to a bike to commute effectively removes a whole car from the road. If this bill passes, I am switching to voting liberal in the next election.
