I’m writing to oppose the proposed change that would prevent municipalities from reducing car lanes to create or improve bike lanes.
Local governments should have the flexibility to design streets that work for everyone. Safe bike lanes encourage more people to travel without a car, which reduces traffic, improves air quality, and lowers emissions. If we block municipalities from reallocating road space, we limit their ability to add safe routes for cyclists and we put more people at risk.
Please reconsider this amendment and allow municipalities to choose the safest and most effective road designs for their communities.
Thank you.
