I strongly oppose any legislation that restricts municipalities from reducing motor vehicle lanes to build or expand bicycle lanes. Safe, connected cycling infrastructure is essential for reducing traffic congestion, improving public health, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Cities need flexibility to design their streets in ways that best serve their residents — not one-size-fits-all provincial limits. By discouraging bike lanes, this proposal moves us backward on climate goals, active transportation, and safer streets.
Instead of limiting municipalities, the province should be investing in and encouraging more protected bike lanes and multimodal transportation options. This approach supports cleaner air, healthier communities, and more efficient use of road space.
