All of our cities are already predominantly car centric. Bicycle lanes are important for the safety of cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians. By removing/preventing the creation of new bike lanes you are creating a barrier for people who want to choose cycling as their mode of transportation.
Reducing bike lanes is bad for the environment, bad for health, and limits the modes of transportation for our citizens. Not everyone has access to, or can afford a car, let alone medical reason that may prevent driving.
We should be looking to our European neighbours who have been able to optimize public transit and cycling, in cities that have much older infrastructure than Ontario or Canada.
