I strongly oppose this idea, as it once again prioritizes motor vehicles at the expense of developing safe cycling infrastructure. This is a narrow-minded approach that will not solve congestion issues. There are many other measures that could effectively reduce gridlock.
For example, the city could implement coordinated strategies such as alternating on-site and work-from-home days for the workforce. This would reduce environmental impact, improve mental-health outcomes, and limit the spread of communicable diseases. We should also focus on improving the reliability of public transit, introducing tolls for entering the city, and exploring other ways to reduce motor-vehicle use in the first place. We can and should look to the successful experiences of other countries for guidance.
