I would like to comment on the proposed bike lane legislation. I am a 78 year old grandmother who does not own a car. For 20 years my bike has been my mode of transportation and I have watched my local bike infrastructure improve over time, although it still has a long way to go.
During the COVID crisis, Mr. Premier, you followed the science and got us through safely. I would ask you to follow the science on traffic congestion and reconsider this legislation.
This is the science-bike lanes do not cause traffic congestion. Too many people in in single occupancy cars cause traffic congestion. Anyone you can get onto a bike, a scooter or public transportation cuts down on traffic congestion because they are not driving a car. In my particular demographic many people have motorized mobility devices that they use safely in bike lanes.
My demographic is not the spandex clad road warrior against whom you are waging a populist culture war. We are just ordinary pensioners trying to get from A to B safely.
Please follow the science and let us complete the important work of improving our bike and sidewalk infrastructure.
