First and foremost, I am both a cyclist and a taxpayer. I have the same rights and entitlement to live safely in this province as someone who primarily drives. It has been proven many times over that bike lanes save lives and reduce traffic in congested areas by getting people out of their cars. This piece of legislation is not driven by any factual evidence and will result in people being harmed.
Secondly, as a voter and a taxpayer, we vote in our municipal governments to grow and manage our cities. They have a much more intimate knowledge of the needs and desires of the people who live in them. While our Provincial government enjoys speaking about Federal overreach, they have no issue reaching down into municipal jurisdiction when it suits their narrative. This intrusion into the municipal sphere is an afront to our democratic process and our rights as citizens. We did not elect a Provincial government to attempt to micro-manage the municipal domain by fiat.
Lastly as a voter and taxpayer, I'm deeply disturbed by the complex web of inefficiencies and waste that this government is creating by attempting to micro-manage the municipal domain. Taxpayers now pay for an entire Ministry of Red Tape Reduction, while our Provincial Government creates layers and layers of new bureaucracy and bloat.
This government has zero respect for my safety, zero respect for my rights as a voter and zero respect for my tax dollars.
