I strongly opposed this bill for several reasons. This bill enshrines that roads are for the purpose of moving cars only - this should not, and has never been the case for any city. Many cities acknowledge the importance of diversifying transportation modes - even if electric cars become the norm, energy consumption and space use is significantly less in bikes, transit and walkers. While this bill seems like a good idea right now, we should not enshrine a law like this - which through apathy, will never be changed even when it should be at one point in the future.
This bill will be devastating to our province and city's effort to become more environmentally prudent - more car lanes have never been equated to reduced congestion, meaning that this law simply makes it harder to promote greener modes of transport with meaningless improvements to drivers, and a degraded experience for everyone else.
