The expansion of Boyne Valley Provincial Park is welcome news as this important natural area is threatened by development and the establishment or expansion of quarries in this area. However, permitting hunting in the existing park area is unconscionable. A hunting season that begins in September and runs through to December would deprive the public of safe access to this eco-sanctuary during its prime season. There are only two ways that hunting could be accommodated on trails and other recreational areas: by exposing the public to the risk of being shot by bullets or arrows or by closing the area to the public, other than the hunters, for the duration of the hunting seasons.
I am a long-time member of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Conservation is the main purpose of our organization, as it should be for provincial conservation authorities. Hunting goes against this purpose and should not be permitted on lands that have been set aside by the province for conservation and protection of flora and fauna that are native to the region.
Please reconsider this initiative!
