I strongly oppose Bill 60 because of its provisions that undermine municipalities’ ability to protect and enhance green infrastructure:
• The bill would eliminate local “green-development standards,” including requirements for green roofs, native tree planting, and permeable surfaces, all of which are crucial for stormwater management and climate.
• These changes centralize decision-making at the provincial level, weakening local control over street design and environmental planning.
By removing these protections, Bill 60 risks increasing urban heat, flooding, and car dependency, all while limiting cities’ options to build greener, more sustainable spaces. I urge the government to preserve municipal green-development standards and allow local decision-making on street reallocation.
Thank you.
