We cannot pretend that we are prioritizing health or efficiency in health spending if we are not working toward a city that encourages walking and biking as viable, safe forms of transportation. This is a fundamentally uncomplicated perspective that is validated by a wide body of evidence.
While significant changes can be made without a massive infrastructure overhaul, the inefficiency and opportunity cost involved in reducing bike lanes – or making this issue contentious at all – appears to be in bad faith and without evidence to support it.
