We will not reduce gridlock by facilitating the use of cars. We will not reduce pollution by facilitating the use of cars. I challenge the government of Ontario to provide any evidence that this proposal will have a positive impact on gridlock or any other positive effect on cities. The only way to reduce gridlock and resultant pollution - if that is truly the government’s goal - is to encourage other modes of transportation and provide infrastructure for those other modes. This proposal runs contrary to its stated goals. Moreover, the proposal takes power away from municipal governments who understand and want to serve the needs of their population, and puts it in the hands of a provincial government that has proven time and again that it does not know best.
