Shame on this government for introducing this short-sighted legislation. The transportation minister is well aware that prohibiting bike networks from being developed in this province will do NOTHING to ease traffic congestion. Widening highways will make traffic worse, highway 413 will make traffic worse.
Instead of introducing policy that would improve the quality of life of Ontarians, this government chooses cynicism once again. Introducing better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure doesn’t solely benefit those who walk and cycle. The evidence is clear; more bike lanes mean less collisions (and that includes car on car collisions too!), less noise, and better business for local shops and restaurants.
Shame on Minister Sarkaria for ignoring the victims of road violence (who don’t just hail from downtown Toronto, mind you) and supporting this terrible piece of legislation. Shame on you.
