I cannot overstate how much I disagree with this bill (Bill 60) and on many grounds.

First, it is undemocratic and goes against subsidiary principle, which states that people closest to the effects of a decision need to be in charge of the decision. This removes the power of municipalities to decide how to regulate traffic IN the municipalities.

Second, why does the provincial government think IT knows better how to organize traffic flow in each municipality in the province? This is not a rhetorical question! What is the cost of the the necessary expertise needing to be hired city by city by the province? Surely cars ARE the least efficient means of moving large numbers of people - any child can see this! - bus is better, as is a tram, or a train, or fast bus lanes, or bicycle lanes, which require LESS space to move more vehicles (bicycles clearly are vehicles and they are smaller than cars). I use the efficiency argument as it matters for this government, rhetorically if not in substance (they are clearly willing to waste money here).

Third, why? The planet is boiling and we are ALL feeling the effects of it; these effects will only get worst. To not act on climate and reduce reliance on fossil fuels and thus cars - in favour of all manner of mass public transit and bicycles - is shortsighted, it betrays our children (and all current and future living beings), and is a wrong way to go. All members of this committee know it and there are libraries filled with studies that prove it. Surely there are still provincial workers who can compile reliable data that shows this is totally not what needs to be happen with regards to climate (thus life).

This bill has to be stopped as it is anti-democratic, inefficient and simply wrong.
