The proposals in this omnibus Bill 60 as they pertain to limitation of bike lanes (never mind collateral effects on bus lanes, street-side patios etc) are both anti-environmental and anti-people. The Premier's and his government's war on cyclists and other road users whose vehicles reduce pollution and actually limit (rather than increase) motorized vehicle congestion is short-sighted, ill-informed, vengeful and dangerous.
Under the guise of "getting things moving," this Bill in general and its provisions around bicycles in particular is intended to promote a vehicular and development culture that is outmoded, ill-considered and favourable only to the limited segment of the Ontario (and specifically Toronto) population with the same dismal "values" and priorities as Premier Ford and his government.
Ontarians deserve better than rampant development, expensive and pointless highway construction, heavy-handed attacks on Toronto's municipal decisions and, in general, a kind of would-be Trumpism, even as the Premier likes to decry the actions of the U.S. President against our country. Sadly, his policies and attitudes, as exemplified by his "war on the bicycle," mark him as a leader no more considerate of the values of his constituency than Donald Trump.
Please stop this foolishness and let Toronto and other Ontario municipalities have their bike lanes, sidewalk cafés, bus-only lanes and urban amenities without the provincial government's negative interference.
Thank you.
