I strongly disagree with the proposal to prohibit the installation of bike lanes where lane reductions are required. Bike lanes increase the number of cyclists (reducing the number of cars) and improve cyclist safety.
Lane reductions are a *benefit*, improving cyclist and pedestrian safety; and for reasons of safety, climate change, road wear, etc., the Ontario government should be incentivizing travel by methods other than private vehicles.
Adding additional burdens and barriers to municipalities for installing cycling infrastructure is a hugely detrimental action, that will result in municipalities having much more difficulty implementing more environmentally friendly roads.
