Minister to Require Input on Standards
Support
Transportation Planning:
Will provide consistent criteria across municipalities which will assist with road design and multi-modal infrastructure integration between neighbouring municipalities.
Concerns
HSR:
Concern that harmonized road construction standards may not give the municipality flexibility to construct roads to the specific needs of the corridor / area, particularly in areas experiencing strong growth that may see significant change in road usage. Ensuring bus travel is possible on all road standards important to maintaining transit viability.
Would prefer the exemptions / exemption process be documented before committing to standards.
LRT:
This can have implications to the City. Suggest seeking feedback from City’s Engineering Services
Transportation Planning:
Without periodic review of standards, there is a risk that the criteria may not align with current best practices.
Contracts
Question
HSR:
Will roads be designed differently between Ontario climates? Would standardization province-wide risk wrong materials being used in the wrong places?
