I am totally opposed to the provisions of Schedule 5 of Bill 60 which relate to bicycle lanes.

Bicycle lanes are precisely the type of matter which should be decided by municipalities, including the City of Toronto, based on local priorities and infrastructure as part of the overall municipal transportation plan.

The unilateral intrusion by the Province into municipal decision making around bicycle lanes directly contradicts the Preamble to the City of Toronto Act, 2006 which mandates cooperation between the provincial government and the City of Toronto, and recognize that the City of Toronto is as capable as the provincial government in respect of governing the municipality:

- "The Assembly recognizes that the success of the City requires the active participation of governments working together in a partnership based on respect, consultation and co-operation."

- ... The Assembly recognizes that the City is a government that is capable of exercising its powers in a responsible and accountable fashion."

I would therefore requesst that the government not proceed with the amendments to the Highway Traffic Act in Schedule 5 of Bill 60 which relate to bicycle lanes.
