This is the most backward thinking possible. I commute near Bloor and Dufferin - it was easy during Covid when there were no cars, but it's otherwise never been quick to drive a car there. And it's difficult to park. With the addition of the new buildings at Dupont and Dufferin, the new buildings at Dufferin and Bloor, new townhouses and Bloor and Pauline, new building at Bloor and Lansdowne and the 4 new buildings replacing the Value Village, things are about to get a whole lot more crowded. Eliminating a bike lane and replacing it with a car lane will not make it better. In fact, it won't even stay the same. It will get exponentially worse.
The one consistent thing that I see as I ride past all of the cars is that they all have one person in them. We need to change the way that we move around! Adding a lane will, as has been proven time and again, make more people think that it makes sense to drive those short trips, one to a car. On top of that, you imperil cyclists who will continue to ride while discouraging many others from even trying.
Solutions, not rhetoric!
