I have been an avid user of the Kolapore Uplands since 1992. As a local resident and an avid back-country skier there really isn't any other area like it in Southern Ontario.
I have also seen an increase in use, and so think that any opportunity to provide a level of protection is a good idea.
My understanding is that Conservation Reserve policies would allow existing and new non-motorized trails, so hopefully the Kolapore trail system would continue. Cross-country skiing, hiking and biking should all be permitted. I am also an active member of the Kolapore Uplands Wilderness Trails Association. I want to make sure we can continue to manage and improve the trail system for all of the users I have listed.
My main concern is to maintain the “skiing only” policy for Kolapore trails in winter. I would support the designation if the current policy that cross-country skiing is the only use on ski trails in winter continues.
Thank you for this opportunity.
