Bill 60 is a terrible idea. It wrests control away from local municipal governments to manage traffic lanes. Local government is able to manage these decisions. They (and we, as the citizens electing them) have better knowledge (read "any knowledge") of our local conditions and plans for developing our neigbourhoods. It is foolish to propose that we, at the local level, do not know what we are doing; that somehow the provincial government knows better. A growing body of evidence (and voter sentiment) is showing that bicycle lanes are good for commerce, safety and public health. It is foolish of the provincial government to claim that there could never be a circumstance where a car lane reduction could be appropriate. It is undemocratic to wrest this control of local issues away from local government.
